In April 2009 I went to the emergency room thinking I was having a heart attack; I was dizzy and was having a hard time catching my breath. I couldn’t even hold a pen to fill out the hospital forms because my hand was shaking too much. My blood pressure was 160/100 on arrival. After many test they determined I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke—my blood pressure had caused a panic attack. My doctor put me on high blood pressure medication the next day, along with Xanax, and told me to lose 10-15 lbs. I also had a physical and my doctor told me he would probably put me on a cholesterol medication within the next year.

Over the next 15 months the dosages went up on the blood pressure medication but I did lose 10 lbs. My blood pressure went down to “normal” due to the meds, but I was still having panic attacks in the middle of the night. One of my coworkers started going to Exodus and would tell me every day that I should check it out. I went to one of the dinners at Boscos and of course, take in the free meal. I signed up about a week later. Within a few weeks I noticed my blood pressure was getting lower, so I started cutting my medication in half every 2 weeks. After 6 weeks I was totally off my blood pressure medication!

Since I started the program in August, I haven’t taken Xanax! I also am eating much healthier and have lost about 20 lbs! Looking forward to seeing even more changes in the future!
