Free Up Your Budget – Know what foods are clean

Being a clean and healthy eater can seem to be an overwhelming aspiration at times, largely due to the quantity of quality-less food available to us, the financial burden, and the fear of all the hidden additives lurking in foods. Personally, I have found that a little information goes a long way in helping me feel like I can cut through the confusion, and hopefully it will aide you in your process as well.

When I first started eating a clean diet, one of my biggest frustrations was not knowing which foods were dirty and required buying organic, and which ones were generally ok. I hated spending extra money that I had very little of, on things I wasn’t confident were necessary. Thankfully, I stuck with the process, and would like to pass on some of that information to you today in hopes it will help set your mind and wallet at ease!

Winners not in the Organic Circle! (CLEAN!)

  1. Onions
  2. Sweet Corn
  3. Pineapple
  4. Avocado (This is exciting!)
  5. Asparagus
  6. Sweet peas
  7. Mango
  8. Eggplant
  9. Cantaloupe
  10. Kiwi
  11. Cabbage
  12. Watermelon
  13. Sweet Potatoes
  14. Grapefruit
  15. Mushrooms

Losers Unless Organic! (DIRTY!)

  1. Celery
  2. Peaches
  3. Strawberries
  4. Apples
  5. Blueberries (Don’t skimp on your blueberries! They are worth the cost!)
  6. Nectarines
  7. Bell Peppers
  8. Spinach
  9. Kale/Collard Greens (Super Valuable! Don’t give up on your greens!)
  10.  Cherries
  11. Potatoes (But we don’t like to eat these anyway!)
  12. Grapes

I would suggest memorizing this list or printing it out, so you can buy with confidence the next time you shop! I like to bulk up on the clean foods, and then add a couple of the Organic musts each week, and even more when things are on sale. It’s the little things that go a long way!
