“Going Green” is a popular phrase that is continually gaining momentum in our society and around the globe. The “green” concept promotes things like taking responsibility for our environment, cleaning up the mess we have made, and making wiser choices to prevent more damage from occurring in the future. While we could talk about ways we can do that for our world, today we’re going to talk about applying the “green” concept to your life and your body! It’s time to go green friends!

Your body is your own personal environment. There are thousands of contributing factors that create the quality of your living condition and it is your job to take responsibility in caring for it. You are the only person who can make sure it gets cleaned up where it has been polluted, and only you can respect it through the decisions you make that effect it’s condition.

One of the best ways to start taking care of your “environment” is by going green with your foods. Green foods are power packed cleaning agents that bring an alkaline presence back to your body, countering the acid build up that tries to pollute you and create hazardous materials in your domain! The more greens you eat, the more you clean your environment. It’s that simple.

In my opinion, (which is shared by many nutrition nerds like me!), Kale is the green food that simply cannot be beat. It is packed with antioxidants, a great source of dietary fiber, it is detoxifying, anti-inflammatory and is loaded with cancer fighting and preventing nutrients, just to name a few! Some other greens that pack a punch towards pollution build up in your body are broccoli, cabbages (including Brussels sprouts),cereal grasses (like wheat grass), collard greens, dark green leafy lettuces, and sea vegetables & algae (like spirulina).

I want to challenge you to start getting greens into your daily life, at least at one meal a day and then work up to 2, and then reach the champion round where green is always gracing your plate! Greens are most nutrient dense when they are eaten raw or juiced, but they can be cooked as well.

One of the easiest ways to ensure you are getting greens every day is to start your day with a greens drink. My favorite is Greens Super Food, Chocolate Greens Drink which we are now carrying at the office and showcasing for the month of March. It is loaded with greens and tastes fabulous mixed with coconut milk and a little sprinkle of cinnamon! Pick one up next time you are in the office and start the green challenge off on a winning foot!
